| | Today, I finally bowed to the inevitable: on the Idaho Page, renamed Payette - Below Deer Creek to So. Payette - Below Deer Creek. Maps (USGS, DeLorme and Google) all clearly show the section between middle and north forks as being the Main Payette, but local usage insists it's the South Fork. Who cares, really, as long as we're all talking about the same thing, and since the locals call it the 'South Fork', we'll follow suit. Just remember, when trying to locate either Deer Creek or the Staircase run on the map, that they're really on just the Payette.
