FYI for Merced River boaters:

We opted for a late Sunday PM drive instead of the game & ended up at the Merced to take a look.

There is a overhanging tree/bush at far river right channel around Nightmare Island. Also, & more importantly, just below the Island a little way out from river right (but not to the center), there is a large & long log in the current. One end is bobbing up & down and could be an entrapment hazard if things got ugly going down the right channel. The log is diagonal in the current with highest [out of water portion of log] part of the log pointing upstream towards river right. Lowest part of the log appears to be wedged in downstream pointing river left. The top/highest part of the log was usually visable but would occasionally get covered at today's flow of 13-1500. It is in a nasty spot for where the current goes. A scout from river right would be advisable even for those familiar w/ the rapid.
