Jan. 1st 2009 At 8:00 A.M. In Gasquet (Happy New Year!)
Sunrise: 7:43 A.M. Sunset: 4:54 P. M.
The Air Temperature Was 45 Degrees!
The Water Temperature At The N.F. Confluence Was 47 Degrees!
And The Smith River Was At (11 Feet 9 Inches) At 8:00 A.M. Today,
On The Gauge (On The Big Pipes) At The Water Treatment Plant,
At The Confluence Of The North And Middle Fork Of The River!
(The River Is At A Good Level To Raft Or Kayak On Today!)
(See The Dreamflows Daily Flows Graph Below!)
http://www.dreamflows.com/graphs/day.162.php
The N.F. Of The Smith River Dropped 1 Foot 1 Inch!
From 8:00 A.M. Yesterday To 8:00 A.M. Today!
And There Was .44 Of An Inch Of Precipitation!
From 8:00 A.M. Yesterday To 8:00 A.M. Today!
There Is An 80% Chance Of Rain Expected Today!
And There Is A 100% Chance Of Rain Expected Tonight!
(According To The N.O.A.A. Report At 8:00 A.M.) At http://www.nws.noaa.gov/
So With Some Rain Expected Today & More Rain Expected Tonight!
The River Level May Raise Some Today! & May Raise Some Tonight!
(And The River Will Be At A Good Level For Boating Again Tomorrow!)
THE ROAD TO THE NORTH FORK OF THE SMITH IS OPEN!
Monday Dec. 29th I Rode My 650 Kawasaki Motorcycle Up Gasquet Mountain,
In The Pouring Down Rain, To See If The Snow Had Melted Enough To Finally Be Able
To Get To The Put In, On The N. F. Of The Smith, & I Made It There Without Any Trouble At All!
There Were Patches Of Snow Here & There! But Nothing To Bad For A Two Wheel Drive To Be Able To Handle!
And There Has Been No Snowfall On The Road To The North Fork Smith, Put In, Since Then!
My Truck’s In The Shop And I Have No Way To Keep The Road Open Now!
I Am Putting In A Super Heavy Duty Clutch And Automatic Positive Locking Differentials!
(So That I Will Have A Real True Four Wheel Drive Truck!)
And I Am Going To Put A Good Winch, On The Front Of My Truck, As Well!
When My Truck Is Fixed It Will Be More Capable Of Keeping The Road Open!

THE ROAD TO THE NORTH FORK OF THE SMITH IS OPEN!
Yesterday I Did A North Fork Shuttle! And We Moved Two Trees Out Of The Way,
On Our Way In! And We Encountered No Snow Along The Road To The Put In!
Although The River Was At A High Level Three Guys Decided To Raft It Anyway!
And They Hit A Wave With A Hole Behind It, That Was “As High As My House!”
And Flipped And They Had A Long Swim! And Got Separated! One Made It Out
To Gasquet, And Called Search And Rescue! To Send In A Helicopter, To Airlift
The Remaining Two Rafters Out Of The Canyon! And Every One Made It Out
Unhurt, And In Good Condition! I Asked Them To Stop By At The End Of The Day!
To Tell Me How The River Was At That Level! And I Didn’t Need To Ask!
I Am Very Happy Everyone Made It Out Safely! And I Do Not Recommend Rafting
The N. F. Of The Smith River At 19 Feet 7 Inches, Approximately 15,000 C. F. S.
