These observations were made on Sunday January 8th from a raft perspective. The Iowa Hill Gage read 2.7 and we were on aprox. 1600 cfs, per the NFD gage.

There were some significant changes. It appears that you can now, at least at 2.7, enter Slaughters on the left. The giant center boulder is still there, but you can also approach it from far right, between the old gravel bar and right wall. These changes are minor as the entrance move is still much the same.

No real significant changes until you get to Bogus. The first major change is that first drop of Bogus. It used to be a minor little drop, or you could ride up on and slide off the rock on the right. That drop is much more significant and is a frowning flat hole. There is a rock blocking the left channel at the bottom. We ended up running the right side of the first, now larger, drop and hitting a very tight line, just to the right of the airplane chute and just to the left of an existing bolder pile. I think the snow ball and the airplane chute got a little uglier, but it could be me - since I had to run right beside it for the first time.

A new far left cheat kind of opened up. It starts just above the first drop and would set you up to run the old left side. The problem is getting into it. If you miss it, (and it is tight for a raft) You would take the first drop in a bad place and get sent straight toward the ugly portion of the lower drop. It is a decent kayak cheat as we observed. The "Old left side" isn't as clean as it used to be, but it is certainly run able if you can get there.

There looks to be a new far right cheat for small rafts, but it is yet to be determined if a raft can actually get though it. It would also be an alternative to the first drop and would set you up for a right run at the bottom.

The approach to Staircase changed significantly. The first two small stairs are very different, almost requiring a far left entrance. The last three major stairs didn't really change.

It will be interesting to see what this looks like once flows drop more. This may really limit 14' boats in the 1200 to 1600 cfs range.

Good luck and safe boating...

UPDATE:
We ran this run again on Sun 3-6-06. The Iowa Hill Gage was 1.8 and which translated to 2200 CFS over the dam, six hours later.

Bogus has changed again. The New Years Eve flood placed a large rock in the middle of the left run. That rock has been moved and the left run is open as it used to be. The other changes still apply; most notably the entrance to Bogus is still more significant that in years past.

Have fun, enjoy and be safe...

Thanks
