A pine tree has recently fallen into Cache Creek on the Wilderness Run. It's blocking the entire bottom of a rapid called Waterfall, about 1 miles below the Buck Island put in, and is extremely dangerous. The rapid is on straight section and the rapid jogs slightly to the right and then left at the bottom.

What appears from entrance to be a log at the right is the trunk of the tree which spans the entire river. Brush on left obscures the left view so it's difficult to tell that tree is across the river from the entrance. The tree was live when fell so its branches on the left blend in with the brush.

The rapid can be easily portaged on the left.

Tree may have fell in a thunderstorm on Sat 5/26/2012 since have been no recent reports with the local authorities. Yolo County Sheriff has been informed and are passing this on to the BLM.

This is upstream view of the hazard. Look for the broken trunk on right and the branches in the water on left. Inexperienced boaters might recognize the hazard too late and run into the trunk sideways while attempting to get left, resulting a swim under the tree. In a raft it could even uglier.

Paddled the Wilderness Run today (Wed, June 27, 2012).
Never saw the tree. However, there were two trees that looked like they used to be in the way. Clear sailing however.
Put-in at the North Fork by the gravel pit and paddled down to Haswell. 1 Wavesport X and 1 Alpacka Raft. 6.5 hours.
~800cfs. Everything was covered. Epic conditions!
