South Fork Silver Creek ("South Silver")



This mandatory portage is between Off Ramp and Nose Job.  It's easy to see why
it's portaged, though even without the logs I doubt many would run it.  The closest
orange/yellow boat in the photo is pinned.  This was the result of dragging the
boat over the rocks, apparently in an effort to avoid the laborious portage on
river left (shown in the next two photos).  The conventional way is much safer
though, and ultimately easier on both paddler and boat.  - Photo: Cindy Seibel
