North Fork Payette, Idaho

Chris Shackleton, followed by Randy Eggert, approaching Screaming Left Turn. The road runs all the way along the 16-mile Class V section of the North Fork Payette between Smiths Ferry and Banks, so it's easy to select a section that suits you.  In this case we're on what the locals call the Lower Seven, which starts a couple of miles above the Lower Five.  This adds Screaming Left and the Jaws rapids.  The extra section is short - but so sweet.  Flow here is way low (about 750 cfs); at higher flow this stomps.  Photo: Tracy Cunningham
